Hi! My name is Mrs. Richert. I am 33 years old and this is my 10th year teaching for Edwardsville School District. I graduated from McKendree University in 2011. I live in Glen Carbon with my husband, our daughter (Harper), our son (Bennett), and our two dogs!
My hobbies include park dates with my kiddies, reading, shopping, and running.
Do you want to know something really amazing? I was a student myself at Nelson Elementary! I started kindergarten in 1994 in Mrs. Jennings's half-day class. I remember coming to school on the first day and thinking about how nervous and scared I was. However, not only did having a big sister to help me, but all of the kind, smiling faces were there to help me as well. After about 3 days of coming to Nelson, I knew I loved it here. Not only did I have an amazing teacher, but I met so many new friends! Mrs. Jennings's even told us that we got to participate in P.E. and go to the library every week! Nelson Elementary was not only the beginning of my education, it also taught me to love education and helped shape me into wanting to become a teacher. I remember walking through the halls as a kindergartener, first grader, and second grader. I remember being able to bring my pet to school one day for show-and-tell and being obsessed with the playground. I recall going to the nurse’s office and her taking care of me just as my own mom would have! Nelson gave me roots and wings to fly and when I went on to Woodland, I knew I would be more than prepared and ready to take on the new challenges.
Teaching where I use to go to school at is pretty surreal! When I found out I would be teaching at Nelson, I was ecstatic. I was comfortable with the building and I knew there would be warm and kind people to help me along the way. My second grade classroom is the same classroom in which I now teach!
Being a teacher has taught me so many things and has brought so much joy to my life. I love my students as my teachers loved me. One minute I can be a teacher and the next minute I can be a nurse, a shoulder to lean on, a superhero, a storyteller, and so much more. I am honored to not only be at the same school where I attended, but I am more honored to be a teacher of 23 wonderful students who I will never forget!
